The festive season is not only a time of giving, but a time dedicated to family and loved ones. While this is a time of celebration for many, it can also be a time of great hardship, bringing grief and loneliness into sharp focus for individuals who have lost a loved one, in particular, those who have lost a child.
Amber NT provides support for those in the community who have suffered the loss of a child, offering advice and understanding to people wading through the process of grief in the wake of devastating loss.
Katy Chin, the General Manager and long-time ambassador of Amber NT was kind enough to provide us with some insight into how difficult and painful the festive season can be for people who have suffered the loss of a child, as well as some tips for these people who may be struggling during the holidays.
The end of year holidays, which revolve around the ideals of joy and peace can be a difficult time for anyone who has been impacted by the loss of a child. It can be a particularly painful time for families entering their first year after losing a baby or child.
If you are grieving, it is important to do what feels right for you this holiday season. If you are supporting someone who is grieving, acknowledge and understand how difficult this time of year can be for them.
Here are some strategies to support yourself and others this holiday season:
Remember that you are not alone. Over the Christmas/New Year period, whilst Amber NT staff won't be sitting in the office, we will be providing support on our phones.
If you need support over this period, please do not hesitate to reach out:
